REQUEST for CLEAR MAPS - 17 June 2014

My first conversation with Dominion spokesperson Robert “Bob” C. Orndorff of Dominion Resources Services, Inc in Clarksburg,WV was centered on my request for Dominion to provide clear maps of the proposed pipeline route through Randolph County and Pocahontas County in West Virginia.

Bob’s response was that “the maps are out of focus on purpose as to not cause fear."

I shared that it is actually the very opposite. People in our area fish, hunt, hike and are very experienced map readers and are insulted with Dominions series of fuzzy useless maps. I know of Durbin residents unable to sleep knowing there is a thick line cutting through their farm.

“We will of course provide clear maps when the route is established.”

Bob stated that Dominion is “at the very beginning of the process and we do not know exactly where it will be. Tomorrow it could change.”

“There will be people on the ground, environmentalists. The more information we have the better, we want to engage.”

“We know of the karst and caves in the area and if we know we can avoid.”

I suggested a route where they already have a right of way - or in the south along I-64 which would seem more direct to North Carolina. He explained that “this would be primarily a longer route and more expensive”

“Part of our consideration will be studies on historic sites and wet lands. This is the pre-filing stage, gathering of information. There is no application, we are early in the process.”

NOTE:

Reporter contacted me on 10 July 2014 because Dominion representative told him that the maps were not from Dominion.

Rick Webb, retired Sr. Scientist from UVA had the exact same conversation that I had with another Dominion representative in May.

Rick asked that I please share clear maps with him if I was ever able to obtain from Dominion.

WV Gazette created their own clear map which is well distributed showing the three proposed pipelines of Dominion, EQT and Spectra.
